"The Beginning" Part#2
The "townpeople" kinda looked down their noses at folks who lived in the labor camps, much
like homeless people are looked at today.Living in a labor camp carried it's own stigma. I guess because our clothes were always a little more ragged, it was hard for the kids who had to go to school.We were never included in school activities because the teachers figured we wouldn't be there long enough for them to waste time with us....more often than not, they were right. About every 6 months or so, we would load up the old car and head down 66 highway, back to Oklahoma, Dad would find work in the oilfield, and we could stay in the same school for a while.But inevitably, it would be time to head out again,and the cycle of misery would be repeated. . __________________ I once complained about having no shoes, until I met a man who had no...guitar |
