hi !!!
I coud see accordion's method on Mr Caffrey's Web site,
when you forge flat damascus, do you forge it in a blade (thick, point,.....) or do you stock-removal it ????

Most people that forge steel (knifemakers) will forge as close to final shape as possible. In the example on Ed's page of the accordian fold, he would most likly heat it and forge it flat, then forge to the shape and thickness of the knife he had in mind. He would also forge in the blade bevels and anything else that he wants on the blade or handle. When he finished the forging, the knife would look very similar to the finished knife. There could be enough steel left over for a second knife.
