Newbie in Raeford NC looking to learn

Hey guys my name is Jason. I'm stationed at Fort Bragg and just moved to Raeford NC. I'm looking to find someone who wouldn't mind schooling a NEWB on knife making. The reason I want to learn is so I can make going away gifts for my soldiers. I have been working with Bill Coye on getting knifes for my guys as gifts and he has inspired me to try my hand at the trade.

A little history about myself. Im 31y/o. Married with five kids. I was in construction before joining the military for about eight years. Joined the Army at 24, now I'm a Staff Sergeant in the 82nd. I'm a medic and love doing my job and teaching and mentoring soldiers. If anyone wouldn't mind showing me the ropes I would appreciate it. I just don't want to fork out $1000 for a grinder right off the bat without knowing for sure it's something I can and will continue to do. Also if anyone has some tools for sale let me know. Thanks guys and hope to hear from someone.

There is a NC Guild meeting coming up. Saturday January 25, 2014 in Troy at the Montgomery Community College. Lots of good information and great knife makers to visit with. Check out the North Carolina Custom Knifemakers website at http://www.ncknifeguild.org/ for more information.
