ABS/Kydex

Has anyone used general purpose ABS as a substitute for Kydex? I noticed that it is about half the price and by the description it appears to have the same properties....

There are other heat formable thermoplastics but I've never seen one that works as nicely as Kydex. Kydex seems pretty cheap to me and I'm broke all the time. Education, on the other hand, is never free. Buy some ABS and give it a try, maybe we'll all learn something new and useful ...

I have, and it forms very nicely. It takes a little less heat and contours well. The only downside the I have found, is that it does not work well for belt clips. It will break much easier. If I use it again, I will emply a manufactured clip.

I've gone from Kydex to the new Holstex. It's available from KnifeKits.com

It forms much easier than Kydex.
