New member...help with repairs

Hello and thanks for having me here. I received this link after contacting Darrell Ralph in regards to an old design of his sold by the now out of business Outdoor Tech. I have an old Paragee shown here http://www.knifecenter.com/knifecent...or/order1.html

I have searched everywhere and can not find another however all I need to repair mine is a few body screws. Mr Ralph d## state he knew the screws were metric however had no ##ea as to the size. I went to knifekits and saw many different sizes however d## not wish to order an entire bag of each size just to repair this old favorite edc.

So if anyone has this knife or even knows the size of body screws could you advise me as to the ones I need to purchase. I would actually like to purchase enough screws to do the entire knife....I have stripped out the head sections of several over time.

This is a huge forum and I had no ##ea as to where to place this so forgive me if this is the wrong section...thanks again.

I've done a bunch of kits, but I have NO ##ea what screws they are using. Doubtful that anyone here will know exactly.

Screws of this size, in metric form may be more common in the electrical repair industry. Just to get a size specific ##entified, you might want to carry a selection to the local hi-fi repair shop. Just a thought.

Other ##eas welcome. Unless I had the knife in my hand to try this and that from KK, I can't gu##e you.

Thanks for the help Coop and I have checked most local places without any luck. I am planning on checking a few watch repair places in hopes of findind some smaller screws as well.

Darrell I had no ##ea you were a mod here and I appreciate the time again as always. If I really can not find something local I will send the knife to you. Again I will pay for shipping both ways and any expense you may have.

I very much appreciate the offer to assist however I really d## hate to bother you with such a small repair. I really like your designs and have not found anything else thus far that "feels" the same way. I have a good friend Owen who asked me to tell you hello and it was he who talked me into buying my first Darrell Ralph knife.....he has many of your custom works and says you would know him as you have spoken by phone.

So again thank you for the time and I will ship the knife if I can not find anything local.

It shouldn't be too terribly hard to find a replacement screw for the knife. First, you have to know what thread is on the screw. To do this, you will have to measure the OD of the threaded section with calipers or a micrometer. This should help you determine if it is an imperial or metric thread. In this small of a screw size, there is usually only one thread pitch commonly used. So for example you may measure the OD and determine that it is significantly closer to a M2.5-0.4 mm measurement, than say a #0-80 imperial thread. Either way, the screws will be inexpensive enough that you can purchase both the closest imperial and metric screws and then I'm sure that one of them would work.

Logem actually my plan was to find a site with screws for sale and buy a few of every small size. I thought I would be able to simply go by trial and error until I found a size that fit. I have nothing to measure with so I set out to buy my screws.....well I found every place sold only in batches of at least 25 screws and had several sizes. Before I knew it I was buying 250 screws or several packs at a cost of close to 50 dollars w/shipping.

So I began searching for an entirely knew knife close to the model I had as I had became frustrated with the search. I tried to reach the maker however they are no longer in business and I do know the screws are metric. I believe I will simply send the knife to Mr. Ralph and also purchase something new .....always a good thing to find an excuse to buy another knife anyway.

You might try to stop in at a small machine shop in your area. If there are any decent machinists there they will know how to measure the screws. You could also try Fastenall, this is a chain store. You can usually buy 1or2 screws there.
Also try for industrial supply stores.
