I was just speaking with Steve Culver, MS the other day about a different subject when the chat turned to Forged in Fire.

As it turns out, he has been in the background of that effort all the way back to conception. It's not surprising that two of our members (KCKA) have already competed on air.

He explained that they really had no idea what was involved with forging a knife. The whole, 'get it into the oil quench at the last second' is for tv only. Genuine heat treating takes place after the cameras turn off for that first day.

Steve sent out links to apply for the show, which I did, but I dont weld (though I own a welder), and forge VERY little. I'd lose for sure!

Andy, I figured that was the way it was working. What they show and what really happens isn't always the way it appears. But really, I did appreciate the show. I received some commissions from guys who saw it and wanted a hand forged knife. A lot of guys out there don't even realize having a knife made for them is an option.
