Hope I can tell this one without offending anyone (although it is meant to offend everyone, HA! )

The new Houston, TX evacuation plan:

Cajuns use I-10 east to Louisiana.
Hispanics use I-10 west to San Antonio.
Rednecks (me) use U.S. 59 north to east Texas.
Liberals use I-45 south to Galveston.
Conservatives use I-45 north to Dallas.
University of Texas Longhorns use U.S. 290 northwest to Austin
Texas A&M Aggies use Loop 610!

My 77 year old (Aggie) Daddy woke me up yesterday at 6:00 a.m. to tell me that one!

There's a good reason for it being done that way. See here: http://www.snopes.com/katrina/photos/aggie.asp The pertinent quote from the Snopes article is below.

I will admit, however, that it's pretty dang hilarious.
Quote:
A post on the TexAgs.com message board, apparently from an operator of Loupot's, indicates that the latter assumption may be correct ? the store's windows could not support exterior-mounted plywood, so the boards were placed inside to protect the shop floor from glass shards:

Quote:
Our windows will not support the weight of plywood screwed into their frames ? neither is there sufficient masonry wall surrounding them for an attachment ? therefore our contractor a "good Ag" suggested saving the store from a major cleanup and letting the glass go ? it wasn't a difficult decision to make!

Jamey,

Makes me feel better about our beloved Aggies. A&M is short for Agriculture and MECHANICAL!

Still, I can't find anything on SNOPES that will keep the Houston based Aggies off of Loop 610 during the next evacuation! Dangit!

BTW, it's not plywood. It's OSB, oriented strand board. An Aggie woulds known that.

I'm in that photo.

Bet you don't recognize me without the goggles!

Houston dodged the bullet with Hurricane Rita but there was some storm damage reported:

Tom,

You are in Houston? I am coming there to work the IMS show in November.

Gary,

I am east and north of Houston.

What is the IMS show and what is the date?

BTW, what is code of the west #1?
Hope I won't get shot for not already knowing it!

I work for Harley-Davidson. I wouldn't mind meeting you while in Houston, given the chance.

Sorry Gary,
My daughter is getting married on the 12th.
Guess I'd better show up.

Be sure to check out the HD store in The Woodlands. Pretty upscale place for a Harley.
