forge question

Hi gang - Thom here..
Got my freon tank the other day..
Drilled and cut a square opening 3" X 3"..outta the front..
( Did it without a torch or plasma because I don't like phosgene gas in my diet ) ..
Intend on lining with two 1' or one 2' layer of Inswool..
Will put It 100 on it .. will put a brick on the floor..
My question is this ; is one venturi burner enough; or do I have to go to 2 ???
I've scoped a lot of sites, but haven't found the answer to this question..
I plan on learning forging, cable, etc. and was just wondering if 1 burner
makes the forge hot enough for welding temps ??
This has prob. been covered before; but I didn't see it ..

I would suggest using a modified sidearm venturi burner as shown on this site.

I just finished a double freon tank forge using two of these and running at 4 psi pressure and it produces plenty of heat. You can see the forge on a post here in the newbie forum.

I've checked out that site before; and I think that's the way I'll go ..
I'm only using a single tank; so I think I'll try one burner first and see where it goes from there..

Thom, I think that you will do fine with the venturi torch. There seems to be a long running debate about atmospherically aspirated venturi type torches vs. electrically blown torches. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. The venturi torches use a small orifice(#60 drill or so) vs a 1/4 Inch bore piece of black iron gas pipe. both work fine. Of course the blown torch shows less pressure becauese of the larger orifice. You are probably delivering aproximate volumes of gas to the flame.

Am going with the side arm burner..
As per Ray's idea; I have a small blower I can add on later; if need be..
Got 6" bolts yesterday to make legs..
I've been trying to put a flintlock together at the same time..
Wife's birthday tomorrow..
Bullheads are biting..
The only trouble with being retired is - they don't give ya any vacations !!!

Best thing about the venturi type burner......you can set up out in the middle of the woods and forge!
If you haven't tried it, you ought to.
