About the Iron in the Hat

We over at the Neo-Tribal Outpost forum have been having these Iron in the Hat drawings for a year now. We've had four to date. The first two we swapped hand made arrowheads. Then we did all metal blacksmith's knives. The one we just finished was for friction folders.

What we do is have all who want to participate sign up. Then make your knife. On the set date, the sponser draws the names out of a hat and everybody sends their knife to the name drawn for them. It's loads of fun, and the only requirement is that if you sign up, you honor your committment and send your recipient a knife (or whatever.) No particular skill level is required. No piece is juried or judged. We have people who participate who are brand new to knifemaking and old vets. It's about having fun and building the brotherhood of knifemakers around the world.

Also it's a good way to build a collection of custom/hand made knives without having to get a 2nd mortgage.

Think it over and we hope some of you will want to get in on the fun. Not all of our participants are die hard Neo-Tribalists. So, don't let that stop you. We're making neck knives this time. Here's a link to sign up. C'mon in, the water's warm.

Just want to reiterate what Dana says above. Newbies are welcome. I am a newbie as are many of the participants. No one puts anyones knife down, each effort is appreciated because it is about sharing and growing as makers together.
