Black Magic

I'm not sure if the name fits or not but this is my first tacticle knife design. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot while making this one. It took 4 tries to get the black finish the way I wanted it. I hope you like it.

Specs:
G10 scales
Blade: O1 Tool Steel
Blade Length: about 3 inches
Finish: 600 grit with a black acid etch

Thanks guys!!

Mark, Thanks, this is my first knife I have done the dark etch on. I will definitely be doing more in the future.

Tom, As far as the etch goes I used Ferric Cloride that I bought at Radio Shack. (They also had it named circut board acid) I diluted it down about 3 parts water to 1 part FC. Then you just get the blade all cleaned up (if you have finger prints on it they will show up in the etch) and dip it in the acid. I left this one in somewhere between 30 and 45 seconds. The black finish was not as even as I wanted so I played with that some. What finally worked for me was spraying some kerosine on the blade and rubbing the black around till it was all even and then letting it dry. I don't know why but this left a much smother look. Let me know if I didn't answer your question.

Shane, I agree we do need to get together again. May is pretty booked up for me but I think I would be able to get together in June. Give me a call if that works for you.

I also use ferric cloride. I leave it in the solution for about ten minutes at a time. You just had me confused about the black acid. I appreciate the reply.

Oh, that makes sense. I meant black etch not black acid, sorry for the confusion.
