nice looking stuff
the sg4 thats a darrel ralph kit knife?? it looks good what is the handle ?? burl off some sort? I was thinking of getting a couple out of this range myself but they are 30ish US dollars so by the time I get them in Australia its a bit too dear The skinner blade looks good too. I think I might have seen that tiger strip stuff for sale in some knife catalogs so its interesting to see what it looks like finished up That middle knife looks like somthing I wouldnt want to meet in a dark alleyway 8-) Stephen Nixon hobbyist knifemaker http://members.iinet.net.au/~snixon/ |

John, The knives are looking good, do you do your own leather? I like the tooling work in them. Keep up the good work!

Sorry I hit enter before I was finished.
Stephen, yes that is a Darrel Ralph SG4 the handles are exhibition grade redwood burl fully stabilized, the knife really came out much better then the pictures show, everything fit perfect the bolsters are mirror finished, I left the blade at a satin finish in hopes that the owner would use the knife. The handles cost me $30.00 American and were worth it IMHO. The second knife is one I cut out of AUS8 and shaped with files, it is a copy of a CRKT kife I saw on line. The last is a skinner that I again made with files and a 4X36 sander, it is a copy of a blade I bought from Texas Knife. I built a pattern with a piece of Micarta and then cut it out with a bandsaw and then used files and hand sanders then sanded by hand. I bought the handle material from Texas Knife it is called camo Resinwood. |

Cool lines on the third one. How did you you manage the hollow grind with your 4x36 grinder??? Is it AUS8 as well?

I like the one with resinwood. I did a knife with that resinwood stuff a long time ago. Polishes up real nice.
