Edge finishing

I've ben asked to put some micarta scales on a Damascus blade. Can I just sand as usual and go back and apply etchant to the edges to bring back the contrast? Thanks.

With micarta there should be no problem. Go light on the etchant as it's liable to etch the metal more than the micarta and make the edges a little uneven. Use a Q tip and wet sponge to wipe it off once you have the effect you want. Dry and wax.

If I do wood handles I just use Super Blue on the taped off edges, seems to work well, at least for edges, but it doesn't etch, it blues except the nickel in 15N20 not so much and a quick buff with a piece of cotton cloth and the nickel stands out. The etchant just makes the edges look more black than Damascus and that's why I used super blue. Use what looks best to you.

Thanks, Jimmotq. Light on the etch with Q tip and sponge and should be ok. Thanks, again.

Tell me how it worked? Been a long time since I worked with Micarta with one exception.

Pics? What Micarta? Paper, linen... I've not done anything after the final sanding and light buffing.
