Question Chef Knife Templates - Size Stencil

Hey guy,

I was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere to find any official stencils or templates for chef knives or even other knives? Like a cutout or pattern to use to make the basic shape of the knife? Where do you go to get the shape of your knives?? Do you just free hand draw them? Do you get patterns from somewhere?

Jay Fisher has all his patterns online for anyone to see:

KN Member D. Comeau from Canada has a fantastic website with a lot of patterns.
He is a great guy and helped me when I first started looking for patterns:
http://dcknives.blogspot.it/p/knife-profiles.html

There are many others out there but with these two knifemaker's, there are more
patterns on their sites than you could build.

Good luck and hope this helps,
Troy

+1 for Dan Comeau's site - a ton of patterns, including kitchen knives. A lot of good, basic designs for a beginner like myself. He provides multiple sizes of the same pattern which is very useful when trying to fit something to your available steel stock. Finally, plan to spend some time reading through his blog where he takes you step by step through his process from initial layout all the way through finishing.

A great resource, IMNSHO.
