heat treat kilns
I'm a newbie and have been looking for a used heat treat kiln. I've found ceramic kilns, glass kilns, all kinds of kilns but no knife or heat treat kilns. Can one use a glass kiln for heat treating knives? What's the difference? What is the maximum heat range needed? I'd appreciate any information you might have on this topic.

Look at the KM series of ovens from Paragon. They are made for knifemaking.
I have a KM-24D and like it very much. __________________ Andy Garrett https://www.facebook.com/GarrettKnives?ref=hl Charter Member - Kansas Custom Knifemaker's Association www.kansasknives.org "Drawing your knife from its sheath and using it in the presence of others should be an event complete with oos, ahhs, and questions." |

I agree with Andy.... an oven built for knifemaking is best. Although glass, or ceramic kilns will achieve the temps you need, most are grossly oversized for knives, and are top loading..... meaning that you have this "blast" of heat when you open the "lid"....making it near impossible to get a knife out and quenched before it falls below its austinizing temp.
