2nd Layered Guard Knife
Like the first layered guard knife that I made, this one has ironwood surrounded by brass for the guard. The OAL is 10 1/2", with a 6" blade of 1095 steel. The handle is stabilized Oak burl. Even though I haven't seen anyone else doing this, I like the way it looks, so I expect to make more of these layered guards in the future. Whattayathink?
Thanks, Bob |

G'day Bob maybe you could hit the Iron wood with the 'ol chainsaw file. I reckon it would add a bit more dimension to the guard.

Yo Bruce,
Thanks for the suggestion. I've always done just about the exact opposite on ironwood and gone to ever increasing finer grits of sandpaper up to 2000, and finally to 0000 steel wool and then Ren wax, and it seems to get glossier with a deeper 3-D effect with each step. In person the ironwood really jumps out on this knife, so I'll keep this one as it is, but in the future the next time I'm using ironwood, I'll try the chainsaw file on it. Thanks again, Bob |
