Forging & Grinding 101
This past weekend I had the opportunity to forge & grind my own knife (well 2 knives). I was guided through the whole process by a Master Bladesmith. Humbling to say the least to all the work that goes into a hand made knife!

Looks like you had fun. It really helps when you can get some hands-on instruction ...

Yeah that looks like a blast man. I haven't got to do the forging side of everything. Congrats and can we get some bigger pics of the blades

They look good from what I can see. I remember getting to do that out here in Georgia with two masters guiding me. I came out with a totally bonkers chopper that I love to death. That kicked me in the tail hard enough to finally retrieve the anvil my uncle left me and buy a good knife forge after the one I built was pretty weak.

Thanks for the bigger pics. If those are your first two knives, wow man nice job so far.

Good for you. Nice start. Always good to get front end training on something as complex as bladesmithing.
Sure, we can make it look easy and it can be kept fairly simple, but it took more than a few days to learn what/how/when/why. Now you have to figure out what kind of forge, build/buy, find an anvil, collect tongs and hammers,.......on and on......it's a great life long adventure. Just make sure you have fun with it. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |
