I need a chunk of non hardenable damascus
I need a piece of damascus 1..5" X 1.5" X 12" approx. It needs to be very active as it will be used for ferrules and butt caps. It does not need to be hardenable (is that even a word), in fact the softer it is the better as in most cases I will be turning it on a mini lathe. So that once turned and etched it has a lot of character.
Anyone interested? OH and I need it quickly. I just broke the tap off inside my last piece on a big dagger order. Let me know price and timing. Thanks Steve __________________ Stephen Vanderkolff Please come on over and check out my website. http://www.vanderkolffknives.com/ Thanks |

Steve,
Are you talking about "pre-hardened" or "incapable of being hardened"? What pattern? Alex __________________ Alex Whetsell [======]~~~~~~~> Atlantavirtual.com Atlanta NOC |

Alex
I am going to be using this on a lathe for decorative parts to the handles so the stuff does not need to be able to be hardened, or can be incapable of being hardened. I definetely do not want it prehardened. I am thinking of the rpoduct of someone who is trying to figure out how to make damascus. take the sweepings off the florr , stick it in a can and see what comes out.I have a pommel to turn for the latest knife so I want something that has character but is easy to work. I may need to talk to on of the local blacksmiths and see if they can do something with a mix with wrought iron. I thought that I might have something that would work, but it's ultimately "harden-able". However, if you can't find something better, let me know and I'll ship it up to you. I have some of that Alabama damascus that delaminated on the shelve. I'm not sure if I'd even trust it for a dog collar latch, much less a knife project.
Post the final piece. I'm interested now!!! __________________ Alex Whetsell [======]~~~~~~~> Atlantavirtual.com Atlanta NOC |
