Scottish dirk and frog
A customer ordered a dirk from me but he also wants a frog to go with it. I need advice. How does the frog and dirk come together?
All assistance and advice will be highly appreciated. |

I don't know if a frog and dirk do go to gether historically. I can think of two ways of making a frog and you should probably go back to your customer to find out with one he has in mind. One way would be to make a sheath with a frog stud at the collar of the sheath. You would then make the frog with a loop that the sheath would fit into with a notch in it for the stud to ride in. The belt loop for the frog would be attached to the back of this loop so that the sheath would hang down.
Another way would be something line a sword hanger. You would have a flap of leather with the belt loop on the back that the sheath would be laced down to. You could have the sheath hanging down or angled butt forward. The latter might work for a larger dirk. Hopefully other will chime in with some other ideas.
