sub hilt??
hey guys I was thinking about trying a sub hilt fight like the loveless big bear. does any one know of any tutorial or anything like that. the part of info I am looking for is about the front guard. I get the smaller second guard where it is a guard has a milled slot from the middle straight out then slid over the blade and pined but the front one I am a bit confused it looks like a it would be used on a hidden tang but its not a hidden tang? is the tang desiged for this guard to slip over like in a hidden tang??? I am sure you guys can see I am confused and I am sure its going to be one of those duh moments! I did some searching but couldn't find anything thing so any info would help

Front guard slides down the blade. Has small stops on handle for it . So handle is slightly wider than the handle. It is pinned after it has been seated at the stops.

Yeah, just look at a kit knife sub-hilt. Then again most kit knives come with the guards attached now I think about it.

Or just make it with a stick tang or a stub tang. Then both guards slip on from the rear as usual. Use your imagination, nothing says you must do it exactly as Loveless did it. Better, in fact, if you don't. Be original ...

yeh your right ray....I was thinking about trying it as a frame handle. but I haven't done one of them either so i might try a smaller one with a frame handle first just to feel things out

steve Johnson has a dvd out on how he makes those. I got one, and it explains all the details about hoe he makes them. look up s.r. johnsons website. it sould be there, or though jantz, or other knife suppliers that carry the center cross DVDs.
pepper season has put my big bear project on hold for a bit.
