Splitting Belts
Does anyone have any tips/suggestions on how to split a 2x72 belt into 1" ? I know there is a belt splitter in one of the catalogs but I was wondering if there is a homemade way to do it?

one way i've seen is to mount the belt on your grinder backing side out. then, at slowest speed possible, use a utility knife to gently and slowly cut through the backing. take the belt off and bend it to crack through the abrasive/glue layer. viola.
. be careful and get ready to duck - best to stand at the side of the grinder rather than in front of it. __________________ wayne things get better with age ... i'm approaching magnificent |

Belt splitting
All that is necessary is to turn he belt upside and slice trough the splice lenghth wise of course and then tear. It is not as good on 60 grit or courser belts but works great on every thing finer. I made belts 3/8" this way and used them until worn out. I think this will work well for you too. Frank
