Double brass hilt with brass & black spacers. My favorite even though I only own one. One is due in now and I have five others on order including a Stanaback Special.

Since we're only going to be building one fighter this round, I think it should be a REAL FIGHTER! In other words no foo foo stuff like a shiney nickel silver double hilt that relects light to the enemies eyes. This knife should be understated in looks and overstated in function. There will be plenty of opportunities to build "pretty" knives! Give me a double brass hilt and all black spacers.

Hi all!

I have to go along with BoBlade's thinking on this one. The old "bore" often finds me on the opposite side of the fence, but it depends what hot item we're selling, ya see...

Anyway, I'd like to see us build a "real fighter" too, so I vote for a standard double brass hilt and butt cap, with all black spacers.

Cheers!

Moosehead

Oh sure, all of you moderators are ganging up on us lowly peons. You have the spacers half right.

Hey Panhead,

Moderators are just peons with a title Anyway, you guys outnumber us (or at least I hope you guys outnumber us!), so use your democratic right to get what you want. All we can do is drool when it comes time to pick a winner.

Best,

Ron

Yikes! I have to agree with BoBlade again.

This just can't continue...

Cheers!

I mentioned above my Stanaback Special.
I ordered it thus:

*brass double hilt
*brass/black spacers
*leather grip w/right hand finger grooves
*brass buttcap
Ever seen a Stanaback Special Fighter?

Those are the features I would like to see on our #1-7 fighter.

OK, I know; I ain't right.

Agree with brass #1 hilt. Agree with building a made for business fighter. Hard to pick the spacers without knowing what the handle will be, but I think all red would look best with most handle materials, including black micarta.

Since this one would be a safe queen for me, I have to vote for visual appeal and easy maintenance - NS double hilt, with Al & black spacers.

I hate to do this because I know that it makes it hard to count the votes but I have had my mind changed. Sorry. Mods, I didn't delete or edit my original vote because another post referred to it.

My vote goes like this:

Brass, double lugged hilt with brass/black spacers

Sorry for the change.

Spacers

Oakwood,
You can have brass spacers "OR" a brass collar, but not "both". There will be a thin black spacer next to a collar, but no "multiples", which would be required to achieve the "brass and black" look. Hope this helps and not confuses. Best, Capt. Chris Stanaback

Cap't,

All black spacers! I am learning! That is what is so great about these builds, I learn a TON of stuff from them.

Talking

Capt.

I hate to do this, but I am concurring with Tomthbomb!

I like his idea. Haven't seen one like the one he recommended, but it sure would be fun to have!

Another great thread. Thanks!

New "turns"

Crew,
This thread is taking new turns. I apologize for not mentioning a brass lugged double hilt from the "get go". It is certainly doable, but (there always seems to be a "but") be careful what you wish for. An 8" Model #1 with a brass lugged double hilt, with a concaved handle, scalloped brass collar and scalloped brass butt cap (not flanged) is one of the coolest Model #1's on the planet! No question! It "is" heavy and needs to have just the right "size" lugged hilt or else the hilt over-powers the blade. This is the reason I mentioned the 8" Model #1, as it looks, balances and feels best with lugs.
Ya'll decide and I'll make up whatever the majority feels they would want to see. It is my job to see to it that everybody understands what goes into these projects, make any suggestions and alterations to the design that are needed and point out various options and glitches along the way. I do think that, if ya'll decide to go ahead and build a lugger, then ya' need to use brass throughout. A duralumin butt cap, of any kind, is just going to look and feel wrong. A "flanged" butt cap is going to make the package "handle-heavy".
Nothing is carved in stone, crew. We can modify this project along the way. If antque gold micarta is chosen later on for the handle material of choice, and brass and red spacers are chosen for the spacers now, we would "have" to modify the build, as Randall no longer offers metal spacers as an option with antique gold! It's all a "hunt and peck" at this point.
Oh....and Tom: "Yes", I have seen a Stanaback Special Fighter, just in case ya'll thought I wasn't reading "all" of the posts. Keep up the dialogue: Best, Capt. Chris Stanaback

tomthbomb has come up with what I think would be a very nice combination.

*brass double hilt
*brass/black spacers
*leather grip w/right hand finger grooves
*brass buttcap
Ever seen a Stanaback Special Fighter?

Ron's idea about all black spacers to keep it tactical is good but might seem plain to some and this change to black and brass might be a nice compromise. We still have handle material to discuss and many different materials would look very nice with brass hilt and butt and brass and black spacers.
