filet knife sheath

I have limited experience with leather. Just tried to make a sheath for a filet kniffe that I made. It cut the the sheath the 2nd time I put the knife in. Then I tried to line it with a flexible cutting board and that also was cut. Does anyone have suggestions to help.

I line my leather fillet knife sheaths with kydex or make them completely out of kydex.

I literally line mine with thin galvanized sheet steel. There's no way the blade's coming through that stuff!

Can you tell? -

I'm in Sudbury. I wondered how many people were from around here.

Woodstock for me, down the 401 past Toronto. I have a bro-in-law up near you in Arnprior. We were there last year and that's a nice little town. I could live there!

I use the vulcanized spacing fiber that is commonly used for spacers and liner material in knife handles. It is easily shaped, will fold over on itself without cracking and won't scratch up the handle or blade. I use the thicker material for lining sheaths. I think that it is about 0.030" thick. I haven't had a blade go through it yet.

Hi guys

Nice to see some fellow Ontarian forumites. I have just finished three filet knife cases and lined them with 1/16" kydex. Works great and does'nt scratch the finished blade. My knives have a real upsweep to them and are needle sharp and they slide right in no problem. Ive been using this method for 5 years and no complaints......so far.
