what's your favorite
I was just wondering, I've made a few knifes now, and this little fellow seems to be my favorite. I don't know why, It's not real purdy, but i think it has character....
Oh i almost forgot, it's 1095. Stock removal with a bench grinder and a sanding disk chucked up in a drill press.... I'm kinda tool poor, but i make up for it in man hours... haha How bout' the rest of you? let see your favorite.... Last edited by elginrunner; 02-21-2007 at 11:38 PM. |

Elgin-
I was just looking at one of your other knives that you admitted didn't have great lines. Well I must say you got that problem fixed - this one looks great! -Dave __________________ www.ruhligknives.com "The choice isn't between success and failure; it's between choosing risk and striving for greatness, or risking nothing and being certain of mediocrity." - Keith Ferrazi |

So far i've tried not making two knifes look alike.... Most of the time I don't have a style or pattern in mind. I just start grinding away everything that doesn't look like a knife.... My very first knife I used a pattern, which i emulated a browning hunting/skinning knife but so far that's it..... I was thinking the other day, does everyone use patterns?

I draw out designs onto graph paper, that way I can make sure of dimensions, drop, etc. to make sure it will fit the size barstock I have. Then I cut out the design and trace it onto the barstock.

A classy shape, well done.
One of my favs is a piece a collector has. That knife was one of those where the whole process was smooth and fun. I've tried to re-create it with this piece but the other had a nicer pattern even though the scales were cut from the same slab. This is one in my collection. Dinosaur bone handle scales and not seen is the "vine" file worked spline. __________________ Mike |

Elgin---i understand the "tool poor" aspect. i forge/file my blades and i have been working hard at "making two alike".......keep at it and you will be suprised at the difference from the first one to the "next" one. azmike

Lots of work can be done with a draw file.
