I am planning to build a Combat Survivor and need some advice on the handle material.
If I were to use synthetic material what size would I order.
Same question about woodscales.
I have a large hand and don't want skinny scales.

As long as you have something 1-1/2 x 5" inches, with a thickness of 1/4" inch, you can make a real good set of handles for that model. If you want to go extra thick for a big handle, use a single 1.5x1.5x5 block and cut it in half. Then do palm swells by sanding out contours. This is more work, but really customizes a knife by helping it fit better in "your" hand.

The general rule of thumb:
"Use more material than you need. You can always remove material, but it's near impossible to add it back."

Here's a really good example of one with palm swells by Gabriel Lange.

I estimate that the total handle thickness was 1.5" inches at the widest point.
