Newbie knives
I've been dabbling in knifemaking since about 2009, and have finished a few...my latest effors are: a knife I made for my Grandson's 12th birthday, He is an avid hunter. I got a good price on Desert Ironwood scales, and used Walnut pins.
Utiilitarian sheath, because the sheath is the picture frame, and displays the knife...should not overpower it! Besides, for a 12 year old? My personal knife, uses a Helle #99 blade, Desert ironwood handle, Cocobolo tailcap, and Bone Corian with reconstituted Turquoise/red vulcanized fiber for accents. I got a good price on a Stingray hide, and laminated it to 6oz. tooling leather. Completely hand sewn. Me fingers were sore for a week! It didn't water form like I had hoped, but retention is sufficient for everyday use. Last edited by humminboid; 07-16-2012 at 06:55 PM. |
