made some progress last night..... or rather early this morning. just about ready to heat treat.
clamped into the file guide, edge beveled, and a bit of weight taken out of the back end. (also note the custom hollow grinding jig....) hollow ground on 10" wheel, ready to engrave signature onto the spine. red fiber spacer glued onto handle material. |

worked on this one more tonight. wanted to finish it up, BUuuuttt........ out of a drawer full stainless 1/16" pin stock, I managed to grab the ONE piece of NICKEL!!
so I ended up adding something extra to hide them. this was not my only OOPS tonight. while contouring the bolsters I nicked the tang. not bad, but way too much to hide. my solution to this ended up being to taper the tang. that worked out well enough, but its not the way I prefer to go about it. on the plus side though.... my selection of cork belts sure made cleaning up that hollow grind a piece of cake. |

I am not entering the KITH but I thought I would show off a little damascus Bird & Trout action. I hope you don't mind. Steve __________________ Stephen Vanderkolff Please come on over and check out my website. http://www.vanderkolffknives.com/ Thanks |

Very nice indeed!
A reminder to those who are in the KITH: your knife need not be fancy or have exotic materials although you certainly may do that if you choose. I'd like to see you focus on the best fit and finish you can manage. You might be surprised at how nice your knives can look with plain materials if you push the limits on fit and finish ... |

Just catching up on the thread. I haven't got mine very far past design. I have been very busy with other projects. But we got till july it will be deone for sure by then.
Steve awesome knife! the spalted maple goes perfect with the Damascus. Damon As always looks great especially the engraving...I do have to wonder if your sub conscience made the mis matched pin accident on purpose so you had a reason to engrave something...lol just messing with ya but really beautiful work! |
