Pure Utilitarian

No fancy bells and whistles here. This one is destined to use. Differentally heat treated 1084, with burgundy linen Micarta guard and handle. The Corby bolts and thong hole are stainless steel.

As designed the entire thing from tip to butt can be cleaned as needed with one of the red (maroon) ScotchBrite pads. Simple and easy cleanup.

The blade is 6 1/2" and the overall length is 11". This is a general purpose small camp knife. It's on its way to the owner right now. I hope he'll like it and that it will serve him well.

Sidenote:

My younger daughter's boyfriend is on his way to Iraq. I am thinking about doing something similar for him -- but maybe with a double guard. He is not looking for a fighter. Utilitarian is what he's really after.

Pure Cool. That rugged-looking blade looks anxious to get to work. I also like the choice of a spear point for a working knife such as this.

Cheers,

Roger

The tool as art. What you have made is absolutly a working knife. But it also shows your art as well. Nice simple lines. A clean but robust looking handle. The faint hamon line inhances the blade shape nicely.

When it comes to a working blade I think micarta is a great handle material. Very stable and durable. And yet it can be very pretty. Hard to see in the photo, but it would seem the linen pattern works very nicely with those lines.

As always, very well done indeed!

Re: Your side note.
Hopes and best wishes for a safe return. Too many friends of us all are in harms way.
