Heiser sheath

I've never seen one in this good of shape. Not that I've seen a lot, but it looks like it just came off the line.

EBAY auction 7-5

On a side note, does this knife look older than the sheath.

EBAY auction 4-6

Hi Steve!

That Heiser sheath looks almost too good to be real. The back looks like it is freshly cut leather. Remarkable! I hope some of our experts weigh in here on this one.

With regards to the second auction, even I can say with great certainty (I think), that the knife is much older than the modern era Sullivan sheath with Randall logo buttons.

Cheers!

Moosehead

I've also never seen a Heiser with a back that rough, but I've never seen a brand new one so I don't know if they came that way new or not. Maybe it has been vacuum sealed for 50 years?????

Steve / David,

IMHO the spacers on the 7-5 match up with age of the sheath (circa 1959/60). I also believe the "cornrows" on the back of Heiser sheaths were plowed under by the late 50's. I think the 4-6 is circa mid 60's. I hope we get some other opinions as well.

Best,

Ron

Comparison PIC

These are two Heiser sheaths. The cornrow backed one is for a 7-5 and the rough back one is for a 4-5. The rough back one is almost as clean as the one on Ebay but unfortunately it has a plain silver button on the keeper strap rather than the pretty brown button that is on the hone pocket. The cornrow back sheath is in good solid condition with both brown snaps but it is not as clean as the rough back one. I bought the cornrow 7-5 sheath without a knife so I have no specific guess on it's age. The rough back one has the 4-5 knife to go with it and I believe it is from the early 60s.

Thanks Ron and Jeff for your thoughts on this, and Jeff for the comparison photo.

If both you guys are correct, and I have no reason to think otherwise, then the seller is at least ten years too early in his assessment.

However, it is an incredible example of a "mint" Heiser sheath, and the knife looks good too. I would recommend that anyone planning to bid on it should keep the "real" age in mind when bidding.

Most likely, though this item will fetch a bundle (just a hunch)!

Cheers!

David

Ahoy Mates,
I bought this 7-5 a year or so ago. Same type of mint Heiser BB roughback sheath. Pinned stag, Norton 2 tone stone. By comparing the one on eBay with mine, I would assume that it's legit. Ours was purchased from a very reliable person...Hope this helps.

(I'm already pleading with Donna to let me bid on this one...)

Hi Bob!

The knife and the sheath are both terrific! Thanks for the photos.

Cheers!

David

P.S. If Donna gives you the go ahead, remember to watch out for the "drinking" guy, the Robin, and that "Dome" fuller... These three really how to make a fellow pay.
