Leather Maker's stamp from Max
Just got this baby in from brother Burnett -- all those hundreds of sheaths with my ball-point pen sig, and I finally got around to asking Max to make me a professional looking stamp.
Being a stranger to change I had to play with this a while before I really got the hang of it, but when I found a suitable Bigger Hammer the stamp just came to life Yeh, I'm still Mountain Mike -- the Circle B is for my last name, Bartol. Great work, Max, thanks buddy, Mike __________________ Trying to become the kind of man my dog thinks I am http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft...E4E363B}&tio=0 |

Well, it kind of caught me off gaurd when Mike asked me if I could make him one. But I figured there's no time like the present to learn. Especially with a simple stamp face like that. I used one of those mild steel bridge timber screws Mike Garner gave me for the shank. I just cut off the square bolt head and left that nice shoulder to flatten down for the stamp brass. The circle is a cutoff from a 3/4" brass water heater nipple with a bevel ground on it. The letter B was made from some 1/32" brass plate Bob used as liner material for his folders. I cut a strip about 1/4" wide and plenty long and tried my hand at forming a block letter B. It went pretty well till I had to terminate one end of the brass stock and try and make it look seamless. In the end I had to solder it but it turned out pretty good for my first try. Then I soldered the circle and the B in place with plain old plumbers lead free solder. Not too bad for an Arkansas Peckerwood!
Anyway, I'm glad it worked out for you Mike. You shouldn't have to worry about anyone trying to counterfeit your makers mark now. That 'lazy bottom' on the B is a dead giveaway and shows it's not a factory stamp. Hey, I did the best I could! |

Well Mike, I'll be gone a week starting Saturday the 16th. When I get back I'll get in touch and we'll get something set up old buddy. You couldn't ask for a more warped and twisted mind than mine! I think I'll gather up all the chainsaw chain I've got and various other bits and pieces and me and you will have us a chainsaw chain damascus blowout event!!! We'll weld chain every wich away and just see how many crazy patterns we can come up with. I've been wanting some small bar stock out of chainsaw chain for more neck knives and that press of yours will sure save my hammer arm! I'm really looking forward to mashing up a bunch of steel. I'll be in touch my friend.

Great stamp! Got to be many times better than something 'off the peg'.
