Tom Leschorn ebay offering?
There is a Randall 12-6 for sale on ebay , that the seller claims was engraved and assembled by Tom Leschorn. It seems pretty rudimentary. Is it an early version of his work? Just wondering about the asking price.

I wanted to copy the eBay listing here for posterity, as after a while, eBay listings dissapear, leaving people who look at this post months or years from now, wondering what is being discussed, because its gone. So this is for the educational record.
Up for sale is a Randall Tom Leschorn assembled, carved and engraved Bowie Knife. This item is an extremely rare Tom Leschorn assembled, carved and engraved Randall knife. Mr. Leschorn was the only individual Gary Randall would supply with Randall blade blanks for custom work. This awesome knife is a Model 12-6 "Little Bear Bowie" with a super rare low "S" stamped Stainless Steel 6" clip point blade. This masterpiece measures 10 3/4" overall. The handle is a beautiful hand selected figured walnut with carved exotic material oval inlays and centered between thin black and white spacers. The brass guard and buttcap are engraved with a beautiful flowing oak leaf and acorn pattern. The carving on the front side of the handle is that of a large buck deer jumping over a log and on the back, the carving depicts a large bear with a fish in its mouth. Mr. Leschorn's initials are very lightly carved into the insets on both the front and back side. The base of the buttcap is hand engraved with the original owners initials and the back of the blade is engraved with his name. The knife is in mint condition and comes with an equally impressive Leschorn Hand tooled black leather sheath complete with the grey stone in the pocket. This knife would have been created in the late 1960's making this an extremely rare example of Mr. Leschorn's early work. This is a rare opportunity for a serious Randall Collector to own an amazing Leschorn knife at an unheard of deal!! Regards, Sam G |

Hi Sam!
To me it looks like the legitimate work of the legendary Leschorn. I particularly base my opinion on the inlaid ivory carvings of the bear and the deer. No doubt Tom's artistry is superb! Unfortunately the seller's photos do not do the embellishments justice. Cheers! David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

So if its an early piece, it makes it fairly valuable too.
Thanks David. Regards, Sam |

Thanks David for pulling up the thread that Ron put up.
He and Jacknola have done so much research for the Randall community. Regards, Sam |

My late friend would be chagrined to see a thread with only his early work. Here are a couple of examples of Tom's "top shelf" carving.

Sam,
I don't know if he was the first to use the oak leaves & acorn style. I first saw it on Rick Bowles knives done by David Perdue. I haven't seen it on a RMK in some time now, it is a great look. __________________ See Ya, Chief David Francis |

Thanks Chief. It is a great look. It's good to see these oldies come to light from time to time.
Thanks, Sam G. |
