contact brand cement?

I tried using some Contact brand contact cement the other day. It was easier to put on and dried quicker. Much easer than the masters shoe cement I've been using. Are there any problems using it? Will it harden and crack eventually?

Tracy - I've used all kinds of contact cement over the years and haven't found one yet that cracked, etc. The thing to do when using a stock brand such as Duco, Weldwood, etc is look at the description and see if says something like stays flexible and/or usable on leather, cloth, etc. On large pieces such as lined bags and such I have even used the latex based contact cements and have very good success without all the odor problems.

I used Barge for years but over the last couple of years I've been using Tanner's Bond from Tandy/LF and like it even better - it's cheaper and here in the high and dry desert it doesn't evaporate as fast as Barge did. Speaking of evaporation - no matter what brand you use keep a can of that brands thinner handy to keep the glue at the right consistency - when it starts getting real stringy it's time to thin.

Tracy, Chuck -- FWIW, I've been using Tandy's Bond Thinner with Barges -- not sam ebrand, but worksjust fine. I pour the Barges into a clear jar (this one happens to be an 8 oz olive jar). Makes it easy to mix, and because I'm not opening the big can of Barges as often it doesn't evaporate as quickly.
