"The Beginning Part#3
Sundays were the only day we didn't go to the fields...the women would do laundry and such.
and the men would usually try to keep their old cars running. There was always a brush arbor in the camp, for church service..nothing pretentious here, these folks took the Bible serious. There was always guitars, banjos and fiiddles to provide the music..simple music from simple people. The seed was being planted for my own guitar journey though I was real young. In the cottonfield, there may be a black family on one side of us, and a mexican family on the other side. Ridge-runnin' hillbilly, mixed with black blues and spirituals, cantina ballads from Mexico all blended together in what I now look back on as some form of supplication, almost a musical prayer...This, my friends, was raw, original American music. The music of the people....... __________________ I once complained about having no shoes, until I met a man who had no...guitar |
