Here are the 2 folders with devin Thomas damascus
These are the two knives I was making when I asked about etching the stainless damascus.
They both have Devin Thomas stainless damascus in Serpentine pattern, mammoth ivory scales, and solid gold bolsters made from melted jewelry. About the only difference between the two is that one has vine filework and one has rope filework. These are barlow patterns, the same type of folders I built in my video. Nice Don!!!!! I'm afraid if someone gave me enough jewelry to melt down and then make bolsters, I'd be heading for the border! Party Time!
You did wonders with the Barlow by the way. |

Thanks, Robert.
My customer is in the jewelry store business. He had his bench man melt down the jewelry, then made four flat pieces just the right thickness (.100" x 1 14"). The jeweler did all the work. I could have done it myself but I was really happy that the customer had it done. Saved me a lot of work and saved him the scrap. This made making the knife bolsters just like working with any other material. They really are beautiful knives, wish I had better pictures of them. These are the first knives I've been able to start and finish since my last surgery. It's great to be back!! I'm going to ask if I can borrow them back for the central Texas Knife show. See you there! Remember guys, this is our show. lets support it. Last edited by Don Robinson; 06-04-2008 at 08:13 PM. |

Hi there Don.
You gotta know I just LOVE those barlows !!!!!!! And not only with gold bolsters but ivory scales !!!!!!!!!!!!! I sure love how you kept the length in those bolsters rather than srinking them up because of the cost. Great stuff Don. Frank __________________ Without collectors there would not be makers. |

Nice , Don ! I wish the pics were larger so I could see the filework better. I'm glad that you are recovering from surgery so well. Joe
