Reese Weiland just did some of his own gold plated screws. Send him a note <a href="mailto:rwphil413@earthlink...thlink.net</a>

Re: screws

Can't help you there Jens but I would be looking to recess the head so as to minimize the wear aspect.

Re: screws

I got some from TKS and I have used them on a couple of knives... Look good on some knives, but I think too much on most. You can get a gold plating rig from Rio Grande for around $250 or so. I watched Ron Newton do some Eggerling bolsters at a hammer in. Looks good and we discussed ss screws being no problem. I went to 0-80's for everything that shows on my folders. I use a set of mockup screws until final assembly, then use new screws. The gunk that builds up while making a knife is a pain to clean out of the torx heads can be cleaned, but it's time consuming. I'll spend the extra 60 cents...

Re: screws

I think gold screws look striking with mother of pearl handles.

Re: screws

Terry,
You can gold plate brass screws for example by electroplating.
I'll have Pat E mail you the link on the guy I get my bug juice from.
From 12 K. to 24K. in liquid form, colors are rose, green and yellow tints.(Mix and match colors)
I have a D.C. Power source, but a 6 volt battery works well too.
Hook pos. lead to the basket of screws and the neg. lead to the bucket of bug juice.(I may have that backwards)
Thickness of coating is controlled by the time spent in the sollution.
Hope it helps Man.
