There are some pretty good tutorials over on angelfire about hammering RR spikes into knives or hawks. One suggestion I picked up from them that I don't see on this thread: End your twist 1/4 turn (45 degrees) out of alignment front-to-back. It's less to hammer a diamond shape (i.e., on the corner) than a square (on the side) into a flat shape.
