forging leatherworking tools

So I need to work on my sheath making skills.

I need some tools.

First I figured I would start with a lacing chisel/punch tool that punches multiple stitching holes at one time.

I need to know how many stitches per inch is best for general sheath work.

On the teeth, should they have flat faces, points, or chisel tips?

I was going to flatten the end of some coil spring and go from there.

Ideas?

What other tools can be made that make life easier in sheath making?

I would strongly reccomend getting Chuck Burrows sheath making DVD's, he covers all of the basics in sheath making and the needed tools. Every time I watch it I pick up a few more tips and techniques.

A stitcher wheel, awl for putting the stitch holes in, a wood or rawhide mallet, good needles and linen (flax) thread are some basics. There are some tools that would be very tough to make like an edge groover and beveler. I also got all the the rivet and snap setting tools along with some decorative stamps.

I use either 6 or 8 holes per inch depending on the size of the sheath. I have spent at least $150 just on leather working tools and that is aside from the basic ones I made.
