There are two types of surface conditioning belts.
The first is a scotchbrite belt to put a satin finish on the metal. The second is known in the trade as a "type T" belt which has no grit to it at all and has to be used with polishing compound to approach a mirror finish. Smooth shiny but with a line finish to it, must be buffed afterwards to reach full mirror. I seldom use them except on some commercial metal polishing products. I use scotchbright belts to deburr all kinds of stuff, and do horizontal satins..,they are great! i never use them for finishing blade bevels.leather belts suck (imo)..,only think i ever did with those id dull a perfectly shap edge.they work much better on a smaller machine.

george tichbour: Yes i have used scotchbrite belts they dull sharp edeges a bit but i like the finnish of them together with gator bands. Oh i thougt it was grit on those condition belts. But the leather bands do they work well to polish the last of the edge with buffing coumpond.
balibalistic: Have you tryed to polish the edge with leatherbelts and coumpond. Seved |

I use a cardboard wheel to strop the burr off the sharpened edge for a full razor edge.
Can't imagine using either variety of scotchbrite belts on knives though. George __________________ george tichbourne www.tichbourneknives.com sales@tichbourneknives.com |
