Update, as of 2-6-07 the 3/4'' W2 is about gone but I do have enough for a few more orders.

I do have a good bit of the other sizes but it is selling pretty fast.

Thanks all,

What is a good quenching medium for W2? I know it's water quenching but what about blades? Any warpage problems?

PS: Thanks Don for the fast delivery, it is some nice clean stuff.

Thanks Brent,
W2 is classed as a water quench steel but this is for thick cross sections. Everything I've read about water quench steels say to quench in oil for thin cross sections such as knife blades. Water will work and give very active hamon but you will crack a few blades. W2 is a little deeper hardening than W1 and 1095, so speed is not qite as critical but it still needs a fast quench. I use Parks #50, the fastest quench oil available, my main reson for this oil is for the most active hamon. All but the very slowest quench oils will work fine for a W2 blade. Brownell's Tough Quench is a good choice and easy to get. K&G Finishing supplies has a fast oil also. I have no problems with W2 blades warping. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Don. It seems like most of the cracked blade stories posted on the forums are from someone's first adventure in clay coating and water quenching. Which is why I wanted to stay away from using water.

Update, the 1-1/8" W2 is getting low. Still have a good bit of 1-1/4''. I will add 1-5/8'' soon and will have 1-3/4" W2 next week.

I am finally cought up shipping orders out and after 200+ boxes my Postlady is worried or maybe relieved Let me know if ya'll want any, I can get it right out.

W2 will be available at Batson's Hammer-in down in Alabama March 30, 31 2007. I am planning to bring 1000-1500 lbs. It has been 4 or 5 years since I was there and I'm looking forward to it. I hope to see some of you guys there.

Thanks!
