Thread on how Randall blades are created censored/deleted?

Ok, what happened with the thread about blade creation, where it was asked what the process was for creating Randall knives?
I for one learned something about alternative knife making. Scott also went into a bit of detail about the process.
Regards, Sam

I deleted it.

I knew it was controversial when I started the subject. I was very afraid to offend the purists out there.

The gentleman from RMK provided the solid answer I wanted, we all learned something and the very next post showed signs of where it was going from there--nothing overt, but I didn't want the conversation to get into, 'How dare you territory', which is where I sensed it was going.

So..., being a Moderator..., I moderated.

Sorry Sam.

For the record:
According to RMK, all of there blades are ground on an 8" stone and polished on a Bear-Tex wheel, which gives them their distinctive vertical marks that I asked about.

Thanks Andy for clearing all that up. It would have been okay though. We're not that sensitive around here 😀

Bill, ALL Randall's are ground on an 8" stone wheel and are final polished on a beartex wheel that gives them the Randall Satin finish...as stated...lol

Absolutely Scott, but that is NOT what I said. What I DID said was "not ALL RMK are made the same".

There are many good Randall reference books available which explain the process in great detail for the novice to gather incredible knowledge on the multi faceted process involved in creating the greatest knife in the world. (in my eyes anyhow) Probably the best on this particular subject would be "The Randall Chronicles" by long time Shop Foreman Pete Hamilton.

The more collectors understand the hard work involved in making these knives, the more appreciative they will be when owning, or even handling a Randall.

"Buy The Book Before You Buy The Item" is my old standard for any collector of any media.

Thanks, TB
