Twisted Jelly Roll

I took some quick pics of my Twisted Jelly Roll knife tonight.

5 1/2 inch 15n20/1084 forged clay harden blade, low count twist collar, 4 /12 inch stag handle with pinned jelly roll butt cap.

thanx for looking,

if your really bored i put up a seqence of building pics Here

also took a close up of the camper knife collar, the whole knife has a light Japanese plum brown patina to it.

thanx
Rik

Rik..I have just spent some time looking at the pictures....I think its one of the prettiest knives I have seen for a long time.........The style tends to remind me of a particular style of seax.

The sequence of making the jelly roll is very good. The initial pattern before folding looks like a thumb print.

The second knife you have shown with the 'collar'. I am not sure what I am looking at. Is it a bolster which is fixed in place or is it a collar that slides on and off?....
If its fixed, how?..I cannot see any pins, or is it forge welded in place?

Thanks.

Great work sequence shots Ric! Beautiful knife. I'm sure it's heading to Atlanta!

Nice work, Rik! Wow, the 'jelly roll' turned out well. I do hope to get a look at it in Atlanta. Safe travels!

Thats one fine knife! Thank you for going to the trouble of taking the pictures!!!

How hard was it to get the billet to "roll up" ?

God Bless
Mike

Hi

Thanx Everyone!

Coutel, thanx for noticing! Its slotted kinda like a guard with ears. A cross between a guard and bolsters, tougher to fit but I think it looks cleaner. I wanted a smooth connection to the handle like a handle spacer does. I wasn't sure what to call it so I thought it safe to call it a collar.

Diamond G, Yes! it was difficult for me, I'm not sure why but I was glade when the rolling was finally done. It did help to use the cutting step of the anvil to butt up against once I got it started. I don't want to sound like a whimp but it was alot of metal to move.

whew! I think I'm ready for Atlanta, it took forever to make the sheaths!

thanx again!

Rik
