I called Heatbath and spoke to the "Director of Sales". He said they only sell to those in the industry. They do not have any distributors. Got a hold of Houghton and they have a 7-9 second oil but only in 54 gal drums. If we get enough interest we can order a drum a divide it up. It will cost aobut $13/gal.

you know, I'd be in.
I don't understand some things, however. As you sift through the heat treating threads on numerous forums, Parks #50 comes up often for W1, W2, 10XX, etc. So, SOMEBODY HAS IT! There are folks out there who have barrels of it, or access to it.
Give it up guys!

Hey Karl, over on Don Fogg's forum Randal Graham has been saying that Parks/Heatbath has stopped selling it to non-industrial customers, period. Supposedly for "liability" reasons.

I guess I don't understand the liability
Actually, I have friends in the "industry" who manufacture farming implement "accessories" for anhydrous application. I could get them to order a barrel(s) if anyone wants to split some up?

A person might have to register to view this thread. There is a lot of info on commercial quenches and availability. One of the posters is the HT guy at Houghton (makes the oil Brownell's sells as "Tough Quench").

Darren Ellis Sells Parks #50 and AAA is 1 or 5 gallon buckets, plus you're supporting a knife maker. www.Elliscustomknifeworks.com

Would you be willing to pass on your contact info. at Park-Heatbath? Was the 20 gallons you purchased to meet a minimum order? I'm asking because some other folks have been deemed "not-an-industrial-buyer" recently and Park wouldn't sell to them.

I've got some friends who are in the manufacturing business and had them set up an account. They have a 100 dollar minimum and it took 15 gallons to make $119.00. (3 five gallon buckets)
I've also heard that the Heatbath distributor in Michigan is easy to deal with for people like "us".
I just took the easy route.

Late getting back...

Thanks... I think it will be pretty easy for me to go the route you did and Michigan would be a lot closer than Massachusetts. But I may end up going with Houghton quench products anyhow... on the front of it, they seem a lot more user friendly.
