Marking Methods is SLOW...............at best.
Non existant at worst.....I know a LOT of knifemakers who have given up on them' I have never had a problem.....but MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW UP with a phone call and WRITE DOWN THE NAME OF YOUR CONTACT!!!! well thats not exactly accurate, they have gotten my logo and/or decal wrong twice, once their fault and once I didnt specify the size carefully.................and have been real slow a few times. Personally, I think all three initials would make a great logo, keeping it small and interesting. |

I also have found that what Tom says, is true of late. They had a kid working on my last one that kept calling me "Dude!" They did get it done, but it took a long time. Of course, part of that delay was my fault, by not getting the proof changes back quickly. Follow all of Tom's advice above and don't start your order a week before you need it.
But I really can't complain, I'm usually behind when it dawns on me that I need a new stencil made up and I don't allow enough time. They've done great work for me for more than 20-25 yrs. Never made a mistake that I didn't have the chance to correct on the proof that they sent me. My question is: If not Marking Methods, who? Do we have any alternatives? I'm not aware of any other stencil or machine makers that give a deep, sharp mark. However, I've never used anything else, so I am not realy aware fo what's out there. Also, at ECCKS, I talked with a maker who bought a Model Mk 300, almost like new, for about $250 on Ebay. May not hurt to look around, scope out other forums, ask about the availability, etc. Also, as AT Barr suggests, see if they have used or rebuilt models. __________________ http://www.srjknives.com NRA Endowment Member Knifemakers' Guild Member since 1971 "May you live all the days of your life." - Jonathan Swift Last edited by Steve; 03-07-2005 at 11:52 PM. Steve: The alternative is www.lectroetch.com. These guys actually invented the process. I used marking methods, until they started shipping my stuff to the wrong address and giving me other poor service. Now, I use Lectroetch and have had nothing but great service. I like their stencils better, too.
