Scholarship Knife WIP
Hello everyone. I'm going to do a WIP of the scholarship knife if y'all don't mind. I'm going to make a Woodsman with a curley cue forged into the tail end. Dan Eastland is going to make a matching box. I'll do a sheath. The handle of the knife is going to be Bloodwood and black canvas micarta.
So the first step was to grind the blank to shape and drill it. Then I start forging the curley cue from that extra 'tail' that was left at the butt of the knife. Once its all forged to shape, I go at it with a tiny ball peen hammer to texture it some. I did 4 on that morning. The Woodsman is the top blank. This is the plank of Bloodwood. This is all the pieces necessary to make the handle scales. Thats as far as I've gotten. I'll post more pics as I get further along. Any tips or suggestions welcome! Thanks! |

You're missing out on most of the fun just forging on that end Andy.
Yeah one suggestion.........give it to me to field test! Look forward to winning that one (I'm a charter member and I haven't won one yet, dang it!). __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H Last edited by Crex; 01-05-2012 at 06:05 AM. |

Looking good Andy!
I'm going to be down that way in early February, outside Atlanta (Mansfield?). I'm flying down for work. If I was driving I'd bring you down a load of osage. Found a guy up here in Ohio that's selling osage fenceposts for $7 a piece. Nathan |

Seven dollars a fence post is an excellent deal. I have some pieces of fencepost, and the way the wood has aged on the outside is just gorgeous.
