Very nice design, well done. Especially like your "frog" joint connection with the tuck -aways in front. Bet that was fun.

Your sheath

Mr Deimos: I was looking through pictures of knife sheaths, when I came across your post. This "frog" tuck is fantastic. Would you describe how you did this-or direct me to a site that explains the steps. Very nice sheath.

Thank you

Brad

To MVPeterson, a frog is the part of that sheath that the belt loop is in. It stays on your belt and as you are seated you slide the sheath out it. It allows for the removal of the knife without have to undo the belt to remove it. It dates back to when swords were common side arms and you could not seat yourself with the long scabbard! Now as too the joints they are referring to front side of the sheath where it looks almost like the leather was braided! That is something I am about to ask the maker if would care to share on how to!

Very well executed on the sheath!!

If you would like to share I would love to learn how you made that joint in the leather of the frog on the front of the sheath. I really like that is sets the whole look of the sheath off!

If I capture those three factors in each knife I build, I am assured the knife will become a piece that is used and treasured by its owner!

Your description of "frog" is very good, CC, and I do quite a few in that style for my longer bladed knives. However, with closer examination Deimos' application is similar to the old SW fold-over-tuck-through gun holster off Spanish influence. The scabbard will not slide out of the frog....all one piece.
I'm not sure if I tagged it properly in my first post, there's most likely a better more exacting term for this design.
Either way it's cooler than grits!

Been playing with the "braid" joint with some 4/5 scrap and think I have got it figured out. Now I have to get it to play nice when finished out. Not so hard once you get the concept settled into the old brain pan. Sort of like learning to start a multi-strand braid - it's the amount of time you have to spend getting the pattern started that's frustrating and then figuring out how to stop and finish out cleanly. I'm determined to get it right. The key to the weave look is more obvious if you study the sketch closely.

Crex thanks for pointing that out that the frog is not a true frog but is actually a part of the sheath and I think I see what you are saying about the braid joint now I got to get some scraps and start playing with it! Realizing how that was done makes the sheath just than much cooler to me!!

That style where the body of the sheath or holster slides through a loop or series of loops attached to the skirt to form a belt loop is generally known as a Mexican loop style and is similar to the western made holsters of the late 19th Century.
