Sway Back Jack Pattern

Hey guys,
Hoping I can get some thoughts on this template for a sway back jack slip joint. I've made exactly one semi-successful slippy and took my lessons learned and applied them to this pattern. I'm really just looking for any glaring functional errors in my design. Thanks in advance,
Tim

Welcome Tim

Like the pattern a lot.

The only area that has me concerned is the notch in the tang for the spring to set in. It is my opinion that it really needs to be at 90 degrees. You are showing that it only touchs the spring in two places on points. If theses two small areas wear any over time your blade will not lock up properly and there would be no fix for it. On my folders I do put on a small releif on the bottom end of the spring to help in seating( lint trap).

That was the intent of the angle. I had debated on either doing the space in the tang or relieving the back corner of the spring. I've seen tutorials and books that did it both ways. Maybe I'll change it and just knock off the corner of the spring. Seems like that would be easier to accomplish anyway. Thanks!

So perhaps something like this would be better?

Just realized this won't work because in the closed position, I lose contact with the bottom of the tang. Back to the drawing board.

I always made my locks just as your design in your first post here shows. No problems.

Thanks Don. I guess this is just another example of how there's more than one way to skin this cat. Time to get cutting!

Here's two that I was able to complete from the pattern I posted earlier. Thanks for the input!

There's also a short video of the walk and talk of the one on the bottom on my instagram @tim.merkl
