my first slipjoint

Got it finished up this evening.
154cm blade and spring, 1/16" aluminum liners and cocobolo dymondwood scales.
Definitely not perfect but I'm proud as heck with it. It is pretty snappy opening and closing but far from difficult. I will be making more of these slippys for sure. Now for some pics.

Looks pretty dam good. I see you have the same problem I did with my first slip joint. Getting the spring to sit flush with the liners when the knife is open and closed is a pain in the butt.

Yeah it's flush when open but once I pretensioned the spring it sits about a millimeter proud when closed and just a hair when half open

Mine is exactly the same. I decided to leave it as the slight unevenness wouldnt matter because if I am holding the knife the blade will be out anyway.

fixing that unevenness usually requires assembly/disassembly about 20 times while making a bunch of fiddly adjustments a couple file strokes at a time.

but if youre not wanting to nit-pick what will go in your own pocket, then don't worry about it so long as the knife does what its suppose to.
good looking piece still.

Yeah since this is my first it will be my edc from now on. I'm not to worried that it isn't perfect and I know what I need to do fix it in the next one so I'm ok with it.
Thanks for the comments

That looks great! I wish my first slipjoint had looked that good. I really love the shape with the two rounded corners opposite each other, and the two pointed corners opposite each other.

If you are concerned with the backspring being raised when it's closed, and you want to make a modification that would help without having to take it apart, you could grind the back of the knife flush while it's in the closed position. This would make the spring sit slightly below the liners when the knife is opened, but it would be less obvious. You would just have to be very careful not to grind your handles down any further or your blade with sit higher than the handles.

That being said, I would probably leave it like it is. Especially since it's your first one. Great Job!
