New Folder work

New folder I'm working on. A friend gave me a Damascus blank I've ground and ready to put some jigged bone on the liners.

Looks like a good start. I love the jigged bone.

That's coming along nicely. What is the round piece in the handle?

Round piece is a shield I made from 1/16" 410 SS.
I used two plates with a 3/8" hole clamped the SS between the plates and ground a broken 3/8 drill bit (the round end) at about 15 degree slope and one whack with a hammer and you have a small round shield.
I used a 3/8" end mill bit (center cutting) and made a relief about .060 deep in the handle material.
