Don, I have a sourcing issue. I have 410 SS for my bolsters, but I can only find 3/32 rod in 416. I can't find 416 flat plate to go with the 416 pins. I'm assuming that if I use 410 bolsters and 416 pins, the circle where they meet will be visible. Is that correct? Where can I buy matching pins and flat stock for bolsters?
Tony

You're right about the difference in color, Tony.

I get most of my supplies from Tru-Grit or Texas Knifemakers Supply. They both have websites.

You can usually find 330SS in both bars and plate, but I prefer 416.

I get all my screws and pivot pins from Halpern Titanium.

Well, it's good that you've started, Larry. Good deal.

I've matched the insides of the springs and brass spacer as well as can be.

Finish grinding the blades with the knife temporarily assembled, and finish grinding the profile one more time. I had to adjust the spring rise and fall very slightly after the springs were heat treated, so it's necessary to grind a little off the spine so the blades and springs match flush.

I had ground the blades to a 220 grit finish before heat treat. Now I'll clean up with a 220, then finish up with a 400 grit.

I may hand sand the blades before the final assembly. And then I may not.

I may not be able to do any more for a few days.

I'm scheduled to have a hernia repair tomorrow. I don't know if they will keep me in the hospital or not. Que sera, sera.

Maybe you guys can catch up a little.

Thanks for the good wishes, guys.

I'm home as of today but it'll be awhile before I can wok on the knife again.

Whew! 5 days in the hospital.

well, I heat treated my blades, so they'll be ready for final grinding and finishing, assuming I can make them work.... If not, I have plenty more steel.

I also ordered some 3/32 pin stock and bought a dial indicator. I may have to creatively rig something up for testing rise and fall, but I need to wait for my pin stock.

Other than that, I do have a bit of grinder maintenance I need to finish before I do anything else. Some how my drive shaft got tweeked so that the drive wheel on my NWGS is wobbling. I have a new drive shaft on the way too...

Stay tuned!

Take your time and heal up properly .
I have ground and seperated my blades . Ground inside of springs and starting to fit springs to blades .
In the process of making a rise and fall jig .
I think my 1/8 inch flat stock is going to make a pretty heavy and big trapper . Maybe some 3/32 would have been better .
Oh well , you live and learn .

Keep it going, guys.

It'll be awhile before I can do anything in the shop but I'm here anyway.

My knife is nearly finished. Let's see you catch up.
