Now I've unclamped the plate and lined up the cutting edge of the second blade parallel to the plate. I'm ready to touch off, move the table up about 0.020", and start the second blade.

Note how the clamps have been moved.

I've milled the flats on the first side.

Now it's time to transfer the runout distance from this side to the opposite side.

Now all we need to do is cut to the lines.

I've blackened the opposite side, measured the distance from the spine, and transferred that distance to the opposite side by using the sharp jaws of my dial caliper to scribe the line to match the opposite sides.

Kent, are you still with us?

If you're having trouble with Paypal, send the money in the mail and I'll send the design now. I'll trust you.

I'm grinding both blades, first with 120 grit, then 220 grit. I'm just cleaning up the milling marks.

Ok, I'll give this a shot. I've been wanting to try my hand at slipjoints for a while now... I suppose this is as good of an excuse as any!

WHOOPS!

I copied and pasted your email address from the first page of this thread, and it appears that you forgot the "e" in earthlink.net, and I accidentally sent the payment to donwrobinson@ARTHLINK.net instead of donwrobinson@earthlink.net.

You should be receiving the money now.

Thanks Don.

It was still awaiting approval/acceptance from donwrobinson@arthlink... So I just cancelled the transaction. No big deal.

Thanks for making your plans available and giving us a good walk through...
I'm looking forward to following along and making my first slipjoint!

Exclamation Note!!

The designs will start arriving next week.

When you get yours, make some copies. If you're like me, you'll cut out the parts with scissors and use them for patterns.

Smile Back to work after Easter Sunday

Time to profile the inside of the back springs. I don't profile anything on the outside until the knife can be assembled.

I've finished the blade flats, so it's time to re-align the tilt table back to zero. I use a flat parallel to extend the range of the indicator and to avoid damaging the indicator point by passing it over the table slots.

I keep this fixture on my milling machine all the time. It makes a really handy work rest for all kinds of things.
