Damascus bolsters going on the next build........ (thanks Jim)

question for hidden pins.....?
same pins as a normal set of peened bolsters ?
or is there a standard diameter/material that is recommended for hidden pins ?
Thanks

I like to tap the blind hole in the bolsters, then use threaded rod one size smaller than the threaded hole (so it slips right up inside). Then I fill the hole with resin (JB Weld works well) and push it together. Now for the bolsters to come off you actually have to shear the resin in half.
I originally used to do this with a press fit...no resin, and I would have the threaded rod just slightly too thick to slide into the threaded hole and I would press the bolster on. It works ok but sometimes something goes awry and you end with a small gap between the bolster and blade and you have to start over. The resin method is easier.
As for size, it depends on the project but 3/32" rod is about the size I use.

That's a great idea AUBE! I think I will give that a shot next time I do damascus bolsters. For the last knife I finished I just used 3/16" brass hidden pins sanded really well so besides glue there are no real mechanical bonds going on like AUBE's method.
